Cousins...and friends

Lucy, Millie, Cristy (in back), Di, Ruth, Karen, Myrna

My girl cousins on the Spaulding side have always been a close knit bunch. We have done quilts at each other's houses over the years, helped each other celebrate our 40th birthdays, had some fun overnighters, and generally stayed in touch with weddings, mission farewells, and funerals. This year, we thought it was important to get together before Millie and her husband, Alan, leave for their 3-year mission to Brazil this summer. We met in Pocatello for dinner, then went to Aunt Noni's house for visiting. Some had to go home at that point, but these guys came to my house to have a sleepover. It was a great time.... to get caught up and be reminded that even in our 40's and 50's, we still have a lot in common. Love you guys!

American Idol Wannabe

You can't tell in the picture, but little Jack-Jack is rocking out to the music. We usually get to watch him on Tuesday nights while Val and Meg are at YW/YM. We look forward to it. He's such a little ray of sunshine in our lives. BTW... Michael Johns, David Argeletta, Jason Castro or Brook White are my favorites to win. Too bad there can't be four winners.

April Fools!

April Fools Day 2008 in Bancroft

I'm reminded of an April Fools prank played on me lots of years ago. It was only about a month after my dad passed away. Gary called one evening and said "Mom has fallen and broke her leg really bad. I've taken her to the hospital and she's about to go into surgery." (I took the bait...hook, line, and sinker) I thought, Oh man, how unfair for this to happen to her, with everything else she's been through. "I'll be right there," I said, and hung up the phone. He let me have ample time to get changed and ready to go before he called back and said, "April Fools!"

And it seems like every year at our house someone falls for the old "rubber band around the kitchen sink sprayer" gag.

Does anyone else have an April Fools story to share?

Trip to Bozeman

Roy and I made a trip to Bozeman this week. A little business and a little pleasure. We took a restored boat up there for Robert to sell. It's "harvest" time right now in the drift boat business.... all the fishermen see that spring and summer are a sure thing now. We will be building a few boats here in Bancroft as well, to help out with the spring rush.

Little Silas turned 2 on the 27th. He shares a birthday with his great-great grandfather Silas Spaulding. A fun coincidence.

Seth also had a birthday. We celebrated both birthdays with a fun party at Robert and Jane's house.

The calendar says it's spring, but.....

I was chatting with Brenda today, and she told me how beautiful it is right now in Mesa....her favorite time of the year. Well...Spring in this part of Idaho has got to be my least favorite time of the year. The snow is still here, and its not pretty and white anymore, just brown and ugly. And there's always plenty of mud, and it seems to find its way into my house. I finally took down all my snowmen and Winter decorations today, and put up some Spring stuff. It's hard to get in the mood, though, when you look outside. On the brighter side, however, spring does bring with it the promise of warm days to come! No more complaining from me. I'll take spring...

Quilts and more quilts

I have a quilt on at my house right now. It is for my sister-in-law, Claire. My sister, Karen, got wind of it and came on Saturday to take a few stitches. She loves to quilt, too. John, Kayla, Trevor, and Alesha came too, to hang out and see everybody. Maxene and Macy had been talking about coming to Lava Hot Springs, so they brought friends and came the same day. After eating perch that Roy cooked up, and some quilting, we all rewarded ourselves with a soak in the hot pools. Fun day!

Quilting is one of favorite things. Here are a few of my latest.

A fun-filled weekend

This past weekend, Roy and I went to Driggs and hit several birds with one stone. We stayed with the Williams grand-daughters while their parents went to Boise to the high school state boys basketball tournament. It was so fun to be able to watch Sicilee and Haddi play in their first junior jazz basketball games of the season. They did great....each making 2 baskets in their games. (And me, without my camera.) They are destined to make their dad proud as future lady redskins!

Another highlight was watching River wrestle in his first freestyle wrestling tournament, held at Bonneville High School. He, also, is destined for greatness! He won all four matches, even pinning his man on the championship match. He was so proud to bring home a gold medal.

Sunday, March 2 was little Simon's blessing day. Faren did a great job, and Simon was a good boy for the whole blessing. We had a great dinner at Lataun's house after church with lots of Hawkes' and Eddins'.

Ryann, age 3, is an uninhibited story teller, using big words like "actually" and "meanwhile."

All ten of the grandkids were there in one place, so I decided it was a "kodak moment." Unfortunately the all the kids didn't necessarily agree with me! They sure are a cute little bunch, though!
